This document sets out the Health and Safety Policy for our garden clearance and rubbish removal operations. It applies to every member of staff, contractors and any third parties engaged in garden waste removal, clearance of green waste, and general rubbish clearance across our service area. The aim is to protect the health and safety of employees, visitors and the public while ensuring compliance with recognised good practice for a garden clearance company. All personnel must read and understand this policy and apply it during every job.

Our senior management retains overall responsibility for health and safety and will ensure that adequate resources, training and supervision are provided. Risk assessments will be completed and recorded for all routine and non-routine tasks. Staff are expected to follow safe systems of work, report hazards, and use issued personal protective equipment (PPE). Failure to follow safety procedures may lead to disciplinary action.

Risk identification and mitigation form the core of our approach. Before any garden waste removal or property clearance task we will identify hazards such as sharp objects, contaminated waste, unstable structures, and manual handling risks. Controls include mechanical aids for lifting, use of suitable gloves and boots, clear exclusion zones for the public, and safe routes for vehicle movement. • Pre-task risk assessments and documented safe systems of work;

Sharp tools and powered equipment must be used in accordance with manufacturer instructions and company procedures. Batteries, fuel and other hazardous substances are stored and transported with appropriate containment and labeling. Any defects are removed from service immediately and reported.

Waste Handling, Segregation and Environmental Controls

All garden waste and rubbish clearance activities are carried out with due regard to environmental protection and legal obligations relating to waste transfer. Waste is segregated on-site where feasible into green waste, timber, metal, inert materials and general rubbish for onward transfer. Controlled disposal routes and licensed waste carriers are used. Spill response plans and containment materials are kept on vehicles to prevent pollution during transit and on-site operations.

Health monitoring and first aid arrangements are in place to protect employees working in potentially hazardous environments. First aid kits and trained first aiders are available on site or on vehicles. Incidents and near-misses are recorded, investigated and used to inform changes in procedures to prevent recurrence. Employees are reminded to report any illness or injury that may affect their ability to work safely, particularly where respiratory or skin irritation could be related to substances encountered during clearance work.

Contractor management requires that all subcontractors provide evidence of competence, insurance and an understanding of our safety expectations. Subcontractors must follow the same risk assessment and control measures and cooperate with supervisory staff. Permits or written approvals will be used for significant or unusual operations, such as working near buried services or removing structures.

Emergency Procedures, Compliance and Review

Emergency procedures cover on-site injury, vehicle incidents, fire, and pollution events. Staff are trained in evacuation procedures and emergency contacts for local emergency services are maintained in operational vehicles. We also maintain procedures to secure scenes, preserve evidence for any regulatory investigation, and take corrective actions to limit harm.

This policy is supported by a programme of monitoring, audits and management review. Performance indicators include incident rates, completed risk assessments, training records and compliance with vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules. Management will review this policy at least annually and following any significant incident, change in legislation, or introduction of new operations.
